ABOUT ME

Nadia Halfway

🥰 My Story.

Hello, Travel Girl and welcome to my Blog!

My name is Nadia, a solo traveller and storyteller from Sardinia, a beautiful island in the Mediterranean Sea.

At only 5 years old, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and at 21 with Basedow’s disease.

However, my chronich diseases have never stopped me. Travelling and living abroad with these conditions hasn’t always been easy, but it taught me strength, organisation and self-confidence.

When I graduated high school, one of the professors asked what I wanted to do for living. I said, without hesitation: Travelling. She almost laugh and said that for that I would have needed money and so to work.

And it is true, of course. However, even tough I haven’t become a doctor or an engineer, I had my achievements: graduated with summa cum laudeam, won several scholarships that allowed me to study and work abroad while and travelling extensively.

🌍 The Places where I have Lived and Travelled to.

When I was twenty, I left my hometown, Cagliari, and moved to London (UK) by myself. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted back then, but I felt a strong need to explore the world and live independently.

I spent a year and a half in London, working in restaurants and bars before returning home in Sardinia to study Languages and Cultures for Linguistic Mediation. During University, I received several scholarships that opened many doors. I studied in Malaga (Spain), joined a summer traineeship in Lisbon (Portugal), and completed a post-graduate placement in Vancouver (Canada). Those experiences allowed me to travel widely, exploring those countries and connect with other people through Erasmus programmes and other exchange projects.

Later, thanks to the Erasmus Mundus scholarship, I continued my studies in Spain and Bulgaria, where I earned a Joint Master’s degree in Translation Technologies. I fell in love with Bulgaria and stayed in Sofia for two more years, working in a large international company. Despite the pandemic, I explored almost every corner of the Balkans, plus Georgia, and some of the Greek Islands.

In December 2023, I decided to change my life again. Before returning to Italy, I went on a 3-month solo backpacking trip across South-East Asia. I spent two months in Thailand combining volunteer work and travelling, then visited Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Singapore.

When I finally came back, I settled in Bari, Apulia. Nevertheless, after a year in another corporate job, I felt unfulfilled. So I packed my backpack once more and spent a whole month exploring China.

🎀 How Nadia Halfway was born.

It was after that trip that I have decided to open this Travel Blog. The only blog fully available in both Italian and English and manually translated to inspire other girls and women to step out of their comfort zone and explore the world.

My mission is to build a community of travel girls who support and motivate each other. I also want to encourage people with chronic illnesses or disabilities to believe that travel is possible for them too as it is for me.

And so, Nadia Halfway was born. Why “Halfway”? Because I’m still halfway to making my dream come true: living from travel, being free to work from anywhere, and owning my time. And yes, the name comes from “Miss Halfway” by Anya Marina. If you know Grey’s Anatomy, it will sound familiar.

Through this blog, I want to share travel tips, hidden gems, and personal experiences from around the world. I also offer personalised travel consultations and itinerary design for those who want to plan their dream journeys but have no clue where to start or cannot find the courage to take that plane.

My goal is to help every girl to travel smarter, safer, and ethical and have a community to support her.

In fact, despite my chronic diseases and limited budget, I have managed to live in 6 different countries and to travel in more that 30. I walked along the Great Wall of China, climbed an active volcano and swum with tropical fish in Indonesia, touched an elephant in Thailand, danced at a Feria in Seville, observed New York from the top of the Empire State Building, and even slept under the Saharan sky. These moments changed me and made me realise how powerful travel can be.
