This exact spot is the original birthplace of UPS (United Parcel Service). It all started back in 1907 when a 19-year-old named Jim Casey borrowed $100 and started the American Messenger Company right here in a tiny basement.
Decades later, in 1978, the Annie E. Casey Foundation (named in honour of Jim’s mother) decided to turn that historic plot into a lush floral oasis. They completely transformed the space and eventually gifted the magnificent grounds to the city’s residents and visitors.
Today, this stunning garden proves that a little bit of imagination can quite literally make the concrete bloom!

This small secret oasis features a spectacular 22-foot waterfall that completely drowns out the city noise.
Thousands of gallons of water cascade over natural granite boulders, surrounded by lush Japanese maples and vibrant green ferns. The beautiful dual-level patio has the cutest little wrought-iron tables and chairs. It is the ultimate Seattle composition to sit down, enjoy a coffee, and let the sound of rushing water wash your stress away!

To get at Waterfall Garden Park, simply hop on the Link Light Rail to the Pioneer Square Station. It is a very short stroll from the station. To reach this point, head straight to the corner of 2nd Avenue South and Main Street in Pioneer Square, or search for these coordinates on Google Maps: 47° 36′ 00.8″ N 122° 19′ 55.4″ W.
The park is absolutely free to enter, but keep in mind that it is a privately maintained park and is gated. The opening hours are usually from 8.00 AM to 3.45 PM, so it is strictly a daytime destination.
The best time to visit this marvel is undoubtedly early morning right after the gates open. Later in the day, especially around lunch, it tends to fill up with locals looking for a peaceful break.
