Beranu Froriu: A Flowery Garden in the Heart of Sardinia

📜 Introduction.

There are several botanical gardens and flower parks in Sardinia, but Beranu Froriu is hands down one of the most enchanting on the whole island.

I recently visited this gorgeous flower park in Turri, just an hour’s drive from Cagliari, and I can tell you it is an absolute hidden gem in the heart of the island. If you are craving an escape from the daily grind and want to explore an off-the-beaten-path destination beyond the usual beaches, this colourful oasis is the perfect spot.

Imagine a relaxing morning surrounded by breathtaking blooms and pure nature. It is exactly what you need to recharge your spirit!

🌸 The History.

The history of Beranu Froriu actually started back in 1990 as a farm called Hobby Flor, run by Michele Galitzia in Turri. However, the real spark happened in 2018. Michele took a trip to the famous Keukenhof gardens in the Netherlands. He felt so inspired that he decided to bring that spectacular Dutch floral dream straight to Sardinia. He literally created the very first tulip field on the island!

The name itself means “Flowering Spring” in Sardinian. Today, this stunning 7-hectare estate has grown into an incredible flower park and boasts an amazing 500,000 tulips across 70 different varieties, alongside 5,000 roses, gorgeous irises, and daffodils.

🌿 A Journey Through the Seasons.

Walking through Beranu Froriu is a truly magical experience. The park completely transforms throughout the year, meaning it offers something new every season:

  • Spring. This is the busiest time of year and it draws the biggest crowds, but for good reason! The season kicks off with over 500,000 tulips. It is a spectacular riot of colour!
  • Early Summer. The elegant irises take over the fields. If you are a photography lover, you will find this display absolutely fantastic for snapping the perfect shot.
  • Summer. You can stroll right through the romantic rose garden. I just love taking a moment here to relax and enjoy the sweet scent of the roses.
  • Autumn. The vibe shifts completely when the lovely grounds turn into a brilliant pumpkin park. It is such a fun spot for a cosy autumn day out!

🦙 The Animals.

The park is also home to some adorable animals. You will find sweet South American alpacas that will completely win you over with their soft fleece and gentle eyes. As you wander around, you can also spot peacocks, ducks, goats and rabbits. They even have donkeys and ponies!

I should mention that they do offer an “alpaca walk” experience. However, I do not recommend taking part in tourist activities that involve animals. I always prefer to just admire them happily grazing in their own space!

🍨 Feeling Hungry?

If exploring all those beautiful blooms works up an appetite, do not worry! Beranu Froriu has some brilliant food options to keep you going during your visit.

  • Self-Service Restaurant. If you fancy a leisurely lunch, head straight to the large dining room. You can sit comfortably and taste delicious traditional Sardinian cuisine. They serve fantastic hot meals to suit absolutely everyone, though the exact menu does change depending on the day.
  • Fast Food Kiosk. If you just want a quick break so you can get back to the flowers, grab a typical Sardinian panini! It is a simple, highly convenient option to enjoy on the go.
  • Coffee Shop. Need a quick pick-me-up? You can pop into the lovely little coffee shop for a proper espresso or a snack.
  • Picnic Area. If you prefer to bring your own food, the park features a spacious, dedicated picnic area. It has plenty of tables and seats, making it the perfect spot to enjoy your packed lunch surrounded by pure nature.

🎫 Info.

Beranu Froriu is open every day from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. You can easily buy your tickets online in advance or simply grab them right at the entrance.

  • Adults: €10 from Monday to Friday, and €12 at the weekend.
  • Children: €6 every day.

If you pay directly at the gate, you will save a couple of euros on the online booking fees!

While wandering the flower park, you can actually pick your own blooms, complete with their bulbs, in specific designated areas. If I remember correctly, each picked flower costs around €1.50.

When you finish the visit, as a parting gift, the staff hand you a lovely small pot so you can grow your very own tulip at home. If you are travelling and cannot easily carry a pot on your flight, do not worry at all! They will happily give you just the loose tulip bulbs instead to pop in your suitcase.

💡 Travel Tips.

The absolute best time to start the visit is right at 9:00 AM. This way, you beat the crowds and enjoy the gorgeous, peaceful morning light. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes for walking around the dirt paths and greenhouses. Do not forget your camera, because every single corner of this flower park is incredibly photogenic!

While visiting, I highly recommend wandering along the trail that winds through the ancient olive trees. It leads you right up to a breathtaking panoramic plateau with a heart frame. You absolutely must stroll down the literary avenue, too. Aromatic herbs completely surround it, and you will spot lovely panels displaying famous poetry and songs dedicated to nature.

If you are not driving, you can reach Beranu Froriu by public transport in about two hours from either Cagliari or Oristano, departing from the ARST bus stations of these cities.

  • From Cagliari. Take bus line 444, change in Sanluri, and then catch the 9125 bus directly to Turri (Corso Vittorio Emanuele 38).
  • From Oristano. Take bus line 404, change in Villamar, and then hop on the 406 bus to Turri (same stop, Corso Vittorio Emanuele 38).

If you are travelling from other locations, I highly suggest you hire a car. Public transport does not serve the rural areas very well, and driving means you can easily reach the gardens in just a few hours from anywhere in Sardinia!
