In any case, always check location, reviews, and transport connections before booking. Sometimes, a cheaper stay outside the centre can cost more if you spend too much time and money commuting.

The first thing I do is look up a few traditional dishes. Depending on the culinary heritage of a country, I narrow it to the a specific region or even city. You shouldn’t eat Paella in Galicia or Panzerotto in Turin as Spain and Italy have a strong food tradition, and every region or city has its own signature dish.
Once you find the traditional dishes, look on Google Maps and TripAdvisor for restaurants that serve them. Compare prices, locations, and reviews on both platforms to decide where to eat. Ideally, it should be within the area of your daily plan.
Try local restaurants where residents eat and skip tourist traps. Usually, touristy restaurants have big multilingual menus with lots of pictures, large signs outside, and waiters calling people in.
🥪 How to Plan your Meals while Travelling.
I personally always choose hostels or hotel with breakfast included. The first thing I do in the morning is eat, have a coffee, and a cigarette. If I can’t find good accommodation with breakfast, I buy snacks at the supermarket to be eaten in m room and grab coffee later.
For lunch and dinner, depending on my daily schedule, I either have a nice meal in a restaurant, take away food from stalls, or something from the supermarket. In fact, many grocery shops sell tasty ready-to-eat options. Sometimes, I even pack food from the hotel breakfast buffet to eat at lunch. Always ask hotel staff if you can take the food!
I honestly prefer eating out for lunch. Prices are usually cheaper, and I don’t have to walk back at night since I’m already at my accommodation. Plus, it feels so much better to go to bed without feeling too full!
Last but not least, always buy snacks and water in supermarkets to avoid overpriced shops, especially around attractions. Bring a reusable water bottle, so you can refill it and always have fresh water on hand. Especially on long days, you’ll consume more calories and need to stay hydrated.
