Versailles de Flore: A Taste of French Elegance in Chiang Mai, Thailand

Last Updated on August 12, 2026 by Nadia Halfway

📜 Introduction.

You won’t expect to round a corner in Chiang Mai and find yourself facing a French palace in Thailand. And yet, there it is.

Versailles de Flore sits within the grounds of the Pingdoi Hualin Boutique Hotel in Chiang Mai’s historic Old Town. The moment you step through its gates, the city falls away entirely. In its place, you’ll find yourself surrounded by golden fountains, sculpted stone figures, and a sweep of Neo-Renaissance architecture that has no business existing this far from France.

It is, without question, one of the most eccentric settings you will ever find in Thailand. If you love themed cafés and European architecture, Versailles de Flore will give you a taste of French elegance in the heart of Chiang Mai.

⛲ Ambiance and Design.

The exterior alone is worth the journey. Neoclassical facades rise up behind manicured gardens, all intricate stonework and deliberate symmetry. The golden fountain commands the centre of the courtyard and the European-style statues line the flowered walkways.

Inside, the unrivalled opulence continues. Crystal chandeliers cast a soft, warm light over gilded furnishings. The frescoes, works of art, large windows and furnishings are intricately detailed, imposing and meticulously crafted. The overall effect is somewhere between a Parisian salon and a Thai temple.

🍨 Feeling Hungry?

The menu at Versailles de Flore moves between Thai and Western with ease. Traditional Thai dishes sit alongside European options such pasta, pizza and sandwiches. They also serve an all-day English breakfast, along with Victorian-style tea, complete with a selection of pastries.

In fact, the dessert selection is where the kitchen really shows off: elaborate, photogenic, and perfectly suited to the setting’s sense of occasion. I personally ordered a piece of cake along with an espresso, and I was absolutely satisfied with the experience.

This is an ideal spot for a slow afternoon tea or a fresh drink in a peculiar spot.

💡 Travel Tips.

Morning visits are ideal. The light is kinder, the heat is manageable, and the courtyard is quieter before the day’s visitors begin to arrive. By mid-afternoon on weekends, it can fill up quickly.

This café is brilliant for wearing long, flowing dresses. The architecture and setting provide the perfect backdrop for stunning photos.

If you’re building a Chiang Mai itinerary, Versailles de Flore pairs beautifully as a breakfast spot before the Monk’s Trail trekking to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep.

Finally, as I mentioned in the introduction, the Versailles de Flore café is located within the Pingdoi Hualin Boutique Hotel. The hotel is truly splendid: prices are slightly higher than the city average, but are still very affordable. If you choose a double room, for example, you’ll pay around €40 a night! The hotel also boasts a lovely swimming pool and an on-site restaurant. Please note that breakfast is available, but is not included in the room rate.
